Anthroposophical wall mirror. Circa 1930s-1940s.
Hand carved wooden mirror made and organically shaped according to the Anthroposophical principles – the early c20th spiritual philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner in Switzerland. The broad philosophy extended to the arts and crafts in a distinctive, often organic, architectural/design style (a key example being the Goetheanum in Dornach). Anthroposophy became deeply embedded in Dutch culture – This mirror came out of the Dutch town of Zeist (The town name is part of an original inscription on the reverse) which has long been the Dutch centre of the movement.
The frame is in good original condition, and has a great colour and age related patina.
