Dom Hans van der Laan (Netherlands 1904-1991)

Tulip wood with metal work & inset gemstones.

A large Bossche School alter table. (that can function as a high table like in a kitchen or shop)

Designed by the Dutch Benedictine monk/architect Dom Hans vd Laan. Unlike most of van der Lann’s furniture this piece is decorated with a narrow frieze that goes all around the base section. The metal and stone decorative elements across the side is possibly by Dutch mid-century metal worker Jan Noyons and colour selected by Wim van Hooff. This rare example of Van der Laan’s designs was part of a collection of furniture came from a post-war church in Amstelveen in The Netherlands. The church was subsequently destroyed, and the furniture sold off.

Note: The tabletop and base can be separated for easier transport.

Large carved sculpture. Circa 1970s.

Stone 45 x 15 x 69cm.

An impressive and beautifully designed Dutch sculpture of a male head. Its elongated vertical form shares stylistic qualities with the earlier art of the Amsterdam School or Bossche school works.

Good condition. No damages – some natural variations in colouring to the stone.

Bossche school ceiling light /chandelier

168.5cm high x 68cm wide

Large iron and copper lights that come from a mid-century church interior in the Dutch town of Heusden. The church was an early example (1950-60) of the Bossche School architectural style as designed by architect Nico van der Laan (other known designers working on the interior were Harry van der Thillart and Jan Noyons, as well as Jo Uiterwaal). The church was closed down in 2018. (further provenance includes a photo of the lamp in-situ)

Jan de Jong / Dom Hans van der Laan (Nl 1904-1991)

Pair of original Bossche School church benches/pews from the Sint-Willibroduskerk in Almelo. 1960s.

Stained pine wood with hand forged large nails.

Two rare long benches designed by the Dutch Benedictine monk and architect Dom Hans van der Laan and executed by fellow architect Jan de Jong for the Sint-Willibroduskerk in Almelo.
The architect Jan de Jong who worked closely together with Dom Hans van der Laan was responsible for the design of the church and its interior. They created an outstanding body of work ,very much defining what is called now the Dutch Bossche School style.
The artist Wim van Hoof was responsible for the entire colour scheme of the church and its interior (including these benches). The colour of the benches is mostly green but has a touch of brown with a silvery blue tint.
The benches were purchased after the demolition of the church in 2005 and is in a very nice original condition.
