Large Art Deco coffee table. Circa 1930s/40s

131 x 86 x 52cm high. Solid oak with bespoke deep molded glass top (trapezoid/fan shape)

Unique early c20th coffee/side table with its original feature glass top that combines the robust qualities of the Brutalist style evident in its chunky wooden base with the elegance of the Art Deco style manifested in the pictorial glass top.
The deeply molded relief images to the underside of the thick glass top depicts two seagulls in flight surrounded by stars.

The narrower front than back of the table would make it highly suitable for particular spaces such as between sofas or in front of a curved sofa.

Provenance: The table was owned by a ship owner who was connected to the Holland-America line in Rotterdam and was passed down by descent through the family.
