Jetty Homan (Nl. 1912-1996)

The Dutch artist Jetty Homan established herself in her younger years as a ballet dancer. After 1950 she began a career as a largely self-taught sculptor. At first she began working in ceramics and later she focussed primarily on making abstract bronze sculptures.

These sculptures are typical of her interest in an organic movement articulated in form and material. One is mounted to a granite block base and the other on a teak wood base. (Unsigned as was normal for her work). The sculpture on the left is a maquette for a larger work on public display in the Dutch town of Arnhem.

Ceramic pitcher

Pol Chambost (France 1906-1983)

Model 835. Ceramic with yellow glaze.

The French mid-century sculptor and ceramicist Pol Chambost had already discovered and mastered ceramics by his mid-20s. From the start his work was know for its biomorphic forms and bold colours. As a prolific maker Chambost established himself as an important maker in the context of the French midcentury art and design world. His work was largely forgotten until revived in the early 2000s. Since then his works have become increasingly sought after and reach very healthy sums at auction.

This jug/pitcher is typical of his work. The model number 835 is inscribed to the underside alongside his signature.

architectural throne chair

Brutalist / Structuralist chair. Netherlands. Circa 1960s/70s.

Steel & leather/hide.

An interesting architectural chair. Its construction and manufacture lead us to believe that it is possibly a prototype? – Its design reflects the style of post-war structuralist architecture/interiors typical of several Rotterdam architects from the period. (we are still researching the design).

Price: 4,400 euro
