Kazuhide Takahama (Jp.1930-2010)

x6 Model ‘Tulu’ dining chairs. Simon (Gavina/Simon International). / Printed makers labels to the underside. 1960s.

Chromed slender steel rod frames, with pink/champagne upholstered seats.

A rare set of 6 sleek dining chairs. Unlike traditional chairs bent from a heavy metal tube, the Tulu uses a slender steel rod that was electric induction-welded before receiving a chrome or painted finish. This technique allowed for tighter, continuous curves and a lightweight, graphic silhouette.

The upholstery is showing definite signs of age and use – we do not believe that this is the original upholstery (although have seen many for sale with the same fabric?) and highly recommend that the buyer has them reupholstered for use (we have priced them accordingly)

Cesare Leonardi and Franca Stagi (Italy c20th)

‘Ribbon’ Lounge Chairs (Model CL9), Fiarm. Italy.

102 x 67 x 58cm high (seat height 38.5cm at the front)

Iconic and revolutionary 1960s design chairs manufactured in lacquered fiberglass and with chrome plated tubular frames. The chairs are very comfortable due the wide and ergonomically slightly tilted seat with integrated armrests which hangs on to the tubular frame with the use of rubber molds attached under the armrests. The cantilever tubular frames provide a subtle bounce and gives the chair an open, elegant sculptural look.

Good original condition with only minor evidence of age and use – The rubber molds below the seats were re-glued to the seats at some point in the 1970s.

Carlo Scarpa (It. 1906-1978)

Model ‘Sarpi’. 1970s. 209 x 109 x 72cm high.

This outstanding dining table was designed by well known Italian architect Carlo Scarpa in the 1970s and produced by Simon Gavina. It has a brushed stainless steel frame and thick glass top and visible connections.

Simon Gavina produced a collection of sculptural designs of which this table was one, named “Ultrarazionale” which reflected Scarpa’s approach to Post-war Italian design. The designs have subsequently become icons of the c20th.

In good stable condition but with some surface scratches and discolouration to the frame.

Sergio Asti (Italy 1926 – 2021)

40 x 40 x 42cm high. Candle, Italy. 1968


Daruma lamp by Sergio Asti. This lamp is the largest size (42 cm high) that was produced by the Italian company Candle in 1968. (Later productions were made by Fontana Arte). The lamp is made out of two parts hand blown glass that makes it easy to access the lamp fitting inside. It gives out a very attractive warm glow. It has its original fittings and is fully marked with Candle sticker.

Gaetano Pesce (Italy 1939-2024)

Cassina 1980s. Designed by Gaetano Pesce in the 1980s this is a rare early low back edition feltri (felt) chair which was purchased from its first owner.

113cm wide (at its widest with quilt attached) x 83cm deep x 72cm high (seat height is 44cm)

The feltri chair is a radical 1980s Italian design that brought craft materials and thinking into the realm of product design. Pesce was aware (like the artist Joseph Beuys in the 70s) of the symbolism of felt as an industrial material – serving as a metaphor for warmth, survival and psychological protection. The feltri was manufactured with detachable quilt back and seat covers a variety of colourways  (like many products during the era) in order to appeal to the taste of customers. This chair has a black seat and extra back cushion and a light soft pink detachable quilt (the previous owner used it mostly without the quilt).

Angelo Lelli (Italy 1911-1979)

‘Cobra’ table lamp. Metal structure body with lacquered base with oxidised steel magnetised lamp/ball. 61.5cm high. Arredoluce, Italy.

Designed in 1962 by Italian light designer and founder of Arredoluce Angelo Lelli. This table lamp/sculpture model ‘12919’ known as ‘il Cobra’ by the workers at Arredoluce for its association with the form of the snake has pivoting black oxide steel magnetised “eyeball” socket set into what is in effect a midcentury biomorphic standing sculpture.
The quality of manufacture of these lamps is outstanding – they have a good weight and substantial feel to them. This one is completely original and in superb condition (no deterioration of the original finish as is common with these lamps, and with original plug and bayonet fitting bulb).

Enzo Mari (Italy 1932-2020)

Autoprogettazione Chair ‘Sedia 1’, after a design by Enzo Mari, 1990s.

In 1974, the Italian designer Enzo Mari published 19 furniture designs that one could make by oneself in his book ‘Autoprogettazione?’. With this programm he created a counter proposal to the paradigm of mass consumption, an alternative to formalism and opening a path to the democratisation of design.
This chair was made by a skilled carpenter according to the original ideas Enzo Mari in the 1990s and has since gained a desirable warm patina.
Nice original condition. Some small scratches and stains commensurate with age.
