Ceramic pitcher

Pol Chambost (France 1906-1983)

Model 835. Ceramic with yellow glaze.

The French mid-century sculptor and ceramicist Pol Chambost had already discovered and mastered ceramics by his mid-20s. From the start his work was know for its biomorphic forms and bold colours. As a prolific maker Chambost established himself as an important maker in the context of the French midcentury art and design world. His work was largely forgotten until revived in the early 2000s. Since then his works have become increasingly sought after and reach very healthy sums at auction.

This jug/pitcher is typical of his work. The model number 835 is inscribed to the underside alongside his signature.
