Bruno Ninaber van Eyben (NL. 1950-now)

The model 020 ‘Stick’ chair was designed by Dutch industrial designer Bruno Ninaber van Eyben in 1977.

The design is made up of three constituent parts that fit together: two pieces of angled plywood and a length of stick with a round profile. The stick in the middle connects the plywood pieces and functions as the backbone and strength of the chair.

These rare chairs were manufactured in very limited numbers due to the production costs and difficulties. Only 150 of these chairs were produced. Apart from its low production numbers the other reason that so few exist is because they can easily get damaged – Due to the stool’s fragility we recommend that it should be purchased by a design lover that appreciates its sculptural qualities rather than its functionality!

The plywood has been refinished.

plywood cube sculpture

Minimalist object/artwork composed of a series of six plywood cubes with diagonal divisions inside reminiscent of Donald Judd’s plywood art works. Circa 1980s.
Beautifully crafted, the six cubes are connected by one or two discrete rubber hinges (with a metal bar holding them in place) that enable the cubes to be unfolded vertically or horizontally in one direction along a single plain.

There are a few possible configurations as shown which enable it to be used as a shelving unit (with limited shelving space), a long bench, or simply as a decorative art object…

Dom Hans vd Laan desk. 1960s

Dom Hans van der Laan (NL 1904-1991)

Early desk
This desk was made for a private residence in the Netherlands in the 1971. It were commissioned as part of a complete interior refurbishment by Bossche School architects Louis de Kok/Fons Vermeulen. The olive colour wash was conceived by the artist Wim van Hooff whose colour schemes were utilised by many Bossche School designs during the mid century period.
The desk is particularly rare being that it is one of a limited number of vd Laan’s designs that were applied to domestic rather than ecclesiastical environments.

Paul Wintermans bracket table with floating glass

Paul Wintermans (Nl. late c20th)

‘Beugeltafel’ /Bracket table 1980s.

The architect Paul Wintermans has been designing furniture primarily for architectural projects since the 1980s. This furniture was produced as unique pieces or as very limited productions. Wintermans furniture designs can be found in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

This table is an ingenious engineered design, constructed from three separate pieces: A sheet of glass sandblasted except for two clear stripes that act both as a design feature and help position the two steel rod feet with adjustable fixings. The two feet simply lean into the structure which when combined with the weight of the glass enables the structure to clamp into place.

Console table. 1960s

Wim den Boon. (nl.1912-68)

A console table commissioned for the adaptation of a private residence in Rotterdam during the early 1960s. It has a thick gauge steel base with a 4cm solid teak sectioned top.
Den Boon was part of ‘group &’ alongside Hein Stolle and Pierre Kleykamp, a group of Dutch interior /furniture designers influenced by the reductivist designs of Gerrit Rietveld. Some provenance available including original drawing designs.
