Henk Lampe (Nl 1951-Now)
1979. Henk Lampe / lacquered plywood.
Four chairs (with accompanying table) from the ‘plakhoutserie’ (glued wood series).
Prime examples of an important series of designs by the Dutch artist Henk Lampe from 1979 – Only a hand full of these museum pieces exist. They capture and predict the spirit of the Post-modern/post-structural age of the time and that which proceeded it.
This series of furniture combines the formality of modernism with a more playful formal language and striking playful use of colour. The series was never taken into mass production, so all pieces are build by the designer himself, making them museum quality pieces.
The Dutch title ‘plakhoutserie’ means a series of furniture built from glued slabs of geometric shaped plywood. The series extended to a variety of functional furniture from small stools to larger tables, each constructed of standardised component parts.
We have 4 chairs and the original table available but to accommodate collectors they can be sold in separate parts if required.
Very good original condition. Light honest traces of use. Original paint. Labels to the underside of some parts.
Price: 9.800 euro (set of four chairs & table)

Hague School armchair. Circa 1920s (attrib. to Frits Spanjaard)
Although we have not been able to locate evidence so far to give a definite attribution, the design of this fascinating armchair is loosely attributed to the Dutch early c20th modernist interior and furniture designer Frits Spanjaard (1889-1978)
It is constructed of solid oak wood with a drop-in sprung seat with beige corduroy fabric.
64.5cm wide x 54.5cm deep x 68cm high (seat height 44cm)
Price: 3.800 euro

Welsh Lambing Chair. Circa 1820s
A high back antique Georgian pine chair known as a ‘lambing chair’. Historically these chairs were used by shepherds during lambing season to rest by the fire side. The design of the lambing chair protected the shepherds from the cold draughts during the spring months.
A surprisingly comfortable chair!
Price: 1.850 euro

Shigeru Uchida (Japan 1943-now)
Two A-Line storage cabinets/shelves, Pastoe/Netherlands 1990s. Aluminium.
90 x 18 x 17.5 cm high
Finely engineered A-Line ‘Horizontals’ that are made from anodised aluminium. They each have softly sliding doors that slide to both the left or to the right.
Each unit is fully marked with the Pastoe company name.
They hang easily to the wall by sitting onto a wall connection that fixes to the wall with just a few screws. Good condition – one cabinet has some slight small brown marks to the inside.
Price: 2.400 euro (set of 2, or 1.300 euro per piece)

Sofa table/ coffee table. 120 x 80 x 55.3cm high. Lacquered and stained oak and plywood.
A very modestly designed constructivist table whose size measures somewhere between a dining table and a coffee table. It is particularly useful as a table at the back of a sofa as shown. The design of the table is reminiscent of the earlier modernist designs by Gerrit Rietveld/ Vilmos Huszár and the De Stijl movement. (We have images available of its ingenious construction).
This unassuming, simple table was designed by Dutch furniture maker / architect Harry Vogelaars. It is signed and dated 1998.
Note: Cassina ‘Fiandra’ leather four part sofa by Vico Magistretti also available.
Price: 900 euro

(Attrib.) Cor Alons (Nl 1892-1967) or Jan Le Cointre.
Oak wood. Restored/ with later upholstered drop in seats. Circa 1920s. No makers markings.
A pair of high quality Dutch Art Deco, Haagse School /stijl armchairs. These chairs could work well as two side chairs but would work equally well as desk chairs.
The design is attributed to the Dutch interior architect and designer Cor Alons. Alons was one of the architects of the Dutch Art Deco movement we now refer to as the ‘Haagse School, or style’. These designers were distinguished from other country’s styles by the application of a sober and cubist language with the intention of achieving a fine balance of form and weight; In this they were especially influenced by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright.
These striking chairs are constructed from solid oak and with the typical straight high back coloured in a contrasting black.
Price: 3.750 euro (x2) or 1.900 (per piece)

Wim den Boon (Nl.1912-68)
Solid wenge wood with chrome plated two part base. 190 x 86.5 x 72.5cm high
A unique bespoke dining table designed by Dutch architect Wim den Boon. In 1956 Den Boon was the architect of a residential project in the Dutch city of Wageningen – This house that still exists today (although in slightly altered state) and could be regarded as one of his best designs. Den Boon designed the house and most of the furniture for it. This table was part of that bespoke dining room, and was purchased from the family that commissioned the house.
It has a handmade chromed metal base in two triangular sections, and a 4.5 cm thick solid wenge wood top with curved sides that gives this table both a strict modern presence and a considered elegance and warmth.
This is an historical piece of furniture and an important part of the legacy of Wim den Boon as an important Dutch architect and interior designer.
